Saskatchewan Tops Mining Jurisdictions in Canada

Saskatchewan is the most attractive jurisdiction for mining investment in Canada.

The Fraser Institute’s annual survey of global mining executives rates 109 jurisdictions around the world. It’s based on geologic attractiveness for minerals and metals and their policy attractiveness. Worldwide, Saskatchewan ranks second behind Western Australia. Survey Director Kenneth Green says, compared to other jurisdictions, this province is perceived to have a competitive tax regime, efficient permitting procedures, and clarity around land claims. Quebec ranks second in Canada and is the only other Canadian jurisdiction to rank in the top 10 worldwide for overall investment attractiveness.

Canada’s overall ranking in the world slipped slightly in 2015. Based on the combined rankings of all jurisdictions in this country, we slipped into the number two spot with Australia taking over top place.
