Speaker: Barbara Kirby

Senior Director, Workforce Planning, Mining Industry Human Resource Council

As Senior Director, Barbara Kirby is responsible for overseeing MiHR's work in labour market trends, intelligence and research. In this role, Barbara directs the work of MiHR's Labour Market Economists in analyzing and forecasting reliable labour market information, conducting public policy analysis and disseminating research outcomes to mining industry stakeholders. In addition, Barbara plays a leadership role in the implementation of MiHR's Canadian Mining Certification Program (CMCP). This work was recognized with the 2011 Canadian Institute of Mining Distinguished Lecturer Award for her leadership and outstanding contributions in the development of the Canadian mining industry's first national worker certification program for underground miners, surface miners and minerals processing operators.  Barbara holds a master's degree in Economics. She has over 20 years of experience in Canada and abroad, including Colombia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Ghana, Botswana, India, Nepal, and Jordan.
