The International Minerals Innovation Institute (IMII), with support from their members and the Challenge Dialogue System Network, is putting forth the Alternate Energy Systems Challenge. This Innovation Challenge is seeking solutions to provide an Alternate Energy System that can be piloted at a mine site in Saskatchewan. Mining has large energy consumption requirements and is a perfect opportunity for innovative energy solutions to be showcased in a global industry.
The IMII Alternative Energy Systems Challenge Prize is a new initiative of the IMII and presents innovators with a unique opportunity to advance their technology solution for the minerals sector by working with Saskatchewan’s leading minerals companies. The total potential project funding available from the IMII for the project(s) supported through this call for proposals is up to $500,000 Canadian Dollars (CAD). The IMII will decide how many solutions may be selected for this Innovation Challenge and whether or not the total funding is distributed to one, two or a combination of innovators.
Detailed in the AES - Challenge Specification For Innovators document are parameters and performance criteria that have been outlined to attract and validate viable solutions that can have quantifiable benefits for IMII’s member companies and Saskatchewan as a whole.
Although this Challenge is seeking Alternate Energy Systems that must meet outlined stage gates, the review team for this process is agnostic with regard to the types of solutions presented. The goal with this Challenge is not to remake the electrical or energy system of a mine, but rather to see the potential of technology to increase financial viability and thereby increase the rate of future adoption.
The IMII, along with their member companies, are pursuing an Innovation Challenge that will provide an alternate energy system which will reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions, have a levelized energy cost on par with current practices, and will allow all members to collaborate at a pre-competitive level. Preference will be given to solutions that have been demonstrated at a pre-commercial scale in a field setting and can be deployed at a pilot scale within 24 to 36 months.
Interested solution providers are asked to complete the Response Template in Appendix 2 of the AES - Challenge Specification For Innovators document. Your proposal should include only non-confidential information as it will be shared with a diverse Review Committee. Consortium proposals are allowed and so are collaborations between a government lab and a company.
Proposals are to be submitted by November 20, 2020 to be considered. Visit tessellate-inc.forms.fm/imii-innovation-challenge to apply.
