IMII’s DEMOday 2026 Connects Industry to Innovations for Saskatchewan’s Mining Industry

The International Minerals Innovation Institute (IMII) welcomed innovators, industry leaders, and stakeholders to DEMOday 2026 today in Saskatoon, where cutting-edge technologies were presented to meet the evolving needs of Saskatchewan’s potash and uranium sectors.

Chosen from an open call addressing 22 identified technology needs, this year’s DEMOday featured nine forward-thinking companies pitching breakthrough solutions, including:

• PMP Group – Underground Traffic Control System
• Glacies Technology – Low Carbon Mine Air Heater and Industrial Thermal Energy Storage
• Splice N Connect – Online Power Cable Monitoring
• Godelius – Autonomous Asset Inspection System
• Momentum Transfer GmbH – Synchrotron XRD based precision mineralogy on mine scale
• Score Group – Advanced Surface Technologies for severe-service processing equipment
• University of Regina – AI Driven Smart Conveyor Analytics for Real-time Ore Characterization
• NuMetrik Systems Inc. – Process Intelligence Platform
• SRD AI – Edge Reliability Layer

This year’s DEMOday featured pitches from 2 Saskatchewan companies, 4 from across Canada and 3 international organizations.  Presenters ranged from start-ups to large corporations. The technologies pitched address needs across IMII’s four focus areas of underground mining, processing technology, exploration technology and project efficiency.

“DEMOday continues to serve as a dynamic platform to uncover and explore innovations that can drive the advancement Saskatchewan’s minerals industry,” said Lesley McGilp, IMII’s Executive Director. “The event connects innovators are working on practical, scalable solutions to real-world mining challenges with industry representatives to assess these technologies.”

As part of DEMOday 2026, IMII presented two Innovation Awards recognizing standout technologies:

• Glacies Technology received the Breakthrough Innovation Award, recognizing a bold, novel solution that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in the minerals industry.
• Score Group received the Impact Innovation Award for a high-potential innovation with near-term adoption potential.

Winners were selected by a panel of experts from IMII’s member companies — BHP, Cameco, Paladin, Mosaic, Nutrien, and Uranium Energy Corp — based on their potential to advance Saskatchewan’s mining sector through transformative innovation or immediate operational impact.
